Sentences as set with, as well as and together with are not the same as and. The sentence introduced by and with both changes the previous word (in this case, mayor), but it does not connect the topics (like the word and would do the trick). You would always say, “Everyone is here.” This means that the word is singular and nothing will change that. Have you ever wondered why we say she looks very pretty and doesn`t look very pretty? The answer lies in the grammar rules about subject-verb concordance or matching. The rule of thumb is that singulars should match singular nouns, while plurals should match plural nouns. What is a name? It is a word to name people, places, events, things or ideas. 3. If a composite subject contains both a singular and plural noun or pronouns related by or nor, the verb must match the part of the subject that is closest to the verb.
